  1. Deck Department (Navigation Side)

Career Progression:

Deck Cadet → Third Officer → Second Officer → Chief Officer → Captain

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining ship’s safety, security, and international communication
  • Managing crew and ensuring compliance with maritime laws

  1. Engine Department (Technical Side) 

Career Progression:

Engine Cadet → Fourth Engineer → Third Engineer → Second Engineer → Chief Engineer 

Responsibilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of main engines and auxiliary machinery
  • Monitoring ship’s power systems, fuel efficiency, and technical safety
  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues during voyages
  • Ensuring smooth running of all engineering operations onboard

This path suits those with a strong interest in mechanical, electrical, and marine engineering systems.

  1. Electro-Technical Officer (ETO)

Career Progression:

Electrical Cadet → Junior ETO → Senior ETO

Responsibilities:

  • Handling ship’s electrical and electronic systems
  • Maintaining automation, navigation, and communication equipment
  • Power control and safety of electrical machinery
  • Supporting both deck and engine departments with technical expertise

ETOs play a crucial role in modern ships where advanced automation and electronics are vital.
